Tesla & General Motors: These two U.S. automakers were the only two companies that maxed their quota under the last EV tax plan. When the companies built 200,000 cars, the rebates would no longer be available to new buyers. This bill pledges to change the quota, but to what extent is uncertain. Regardless, $TSLA and $GM are already arguably the two most popular EV producers. They stand to benefit the most.

Chargepoint: $CHPT is one of the oldest EV companies and has already jumped over 38% on the news around the infrastructure plan. The company boasts over 114,700 charging locations globally.

Volkswagen: $VWAGY plans to begin mass-producing electric vehicles next year. Whilst they’re not as technically competitive as $TSLA, they are still the biggest automaker in the world. The company owns Audi, Bugatti, Bentley, and others. They’re also owned by Porsche, which trades at a slight discount as $POAHY.

BMW: $BWMYY is another European automaker throwing their energy behind EVs. The company boasts an EV version of their MINI, a compact sedan called the BMW i3, and an electric SUV called the X3.

Markets have been fighting to stay in the green over the last few days given concerns about interest rates and the broader market. This has made for very few Rippers as stocks have remained suppressed:

⏰ Today’s biggest Ripper is American watchmaker Movado. The company radically exceeded the Q4 earnings, delivering nearly double the expected earnings per share than was estimated. This came even as revenue dipped for the company. The surprise caused $MOV to rise 18.6% today.



Markets have been fighting to stay in the green over the last few days.

The rising prices of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies caused a handful of crypto-facing companies such as $MARA and $RIOT to go on monstrous runs over the last few months. Now another fad is boiling over from the world of crypto into the world of equity markets: non-fungible tokens. NFTs are catching interest from investors and publicly traded companies.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey sold his first tweet, posted March 21, 2006, as an NFT for $2.9 million. He plans to donate the proceeds from the NFT to “Give Directly Africa Fund,” a charity helping people in poverty. But we’re not really sure what this sale means for the buyer. Do they actually own the tweet? Do they own the rights to the tweet? Probably not. By the way, $TWTR is down 1.43% today - so nobody cares.

In seriousness though, NFTs are causing moves on markets. Toy maker Funko, which makes licensed collectibles around Disney, the NBA, NFL and Harry Potter, surged on markets today because of rumors they’ll be making digital collectibles. $FNKO was up 9.8% today.

Takung Art Co., a Hong Kong-based art marketplace helping investors and art collectors buy Asian fine art, is also catching NFT buzz. $TKAT rose on news that the company wants to “get into the NFT space.” Seeing as though it already interfaces in the physical art world, $TKAT’s incursion into digital art collectibles has captured more attention than generic firms. $TKAT is up 9.8% today.

Online lender Upstart Holdings, which uses education and employment instead of credit score for loans, nearly doubled today after announcing its acquisition of a leading automotive retail software player Prodigy Software. This acquisition will allow them to expand into automobile loans. $UPST rose 89.3% today. 

William-Sonoma has become the latest retailer to get a boost from e-commerce and online shopping. In the company’s Q4 earnings report, comparable brand revenue growth jumped 26%. Online shopping growth rose over 50%, helping the company beat Wall Street estimates. $WSM rose nearly 19%. 

Remember Google Glass? A quaint tech company called Vuzix is making them, but better -- and they popped 8.5% today thanks to recent earnings. $VUZI creates smart glasses for enterprise use in insurance, manufacturing, healthcare and security-facing companies. The company has run up over 181% since the start of 2021, bucking the broader trend with tech.

E-COMMERCE STOCKS RIP AS TECH SLIDES ON DOWN DAY

FinTech Acquisition Corp. is acquiring EToro, a popular European alternative to Robinhood. $FTCV, which offers crypto and stock trading in Europe, rose 43% on the news. In 2018, EToro began offering limited crypto trading in the U.S. The broker plans to expand stock trading into the U.S. later this year. 

Online sandbox game platform ROBLOX has had an excellent first week on markets. It quickly captured the attention of ARK Invest’s Cathie Wood, who added it to her $ARKW portfolio hours after IPO. This week, it’s getting another lift from Stifel, who has set $RBLX's price target at $85. The momentum from both retail and institutional investors has sent $RBLX rising nearly 7% today.

iHeartMedia is fielding an investor offer to buy nearly half of the company, sending shares of the stock up 11%. The offer, which has been filed with the Federal Communications Commission for approval, allows Global Media & Entertainment Investments to increase its 8.7% stake in iHeartMedia to as much as 49.99% of the company. Global Media owns radio stations, predominantly in London. The deal for $IHRT is pending regulatory approval.

Robinhood Competitor EToro to Go Public Through Fintech SPAC

In one of the most bizarre events of 2020, a crash in oil demand caused its price to go negative. Today, the 13 member nations of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) made the decision to cut oil output, allowing oil to jump to its highest price in nearly two years. OPEC, led by Saudi Arabia, is responsible for 44% of global oil production. On the news, Crude Oil ETN $OIL, which tracks the price of oil on markets, rose 4.7% today. 

Given that rise of oil in the aftermath of the decision, our Rippers today share a common theme: W&T Offshore, PDC Energy, Continental Resources, QEP Resources, SM Energy Company, and Diamondback Energy are all oil & gas exploration companies. The small-cap oil players jumped roughly 13% in aggregate. These players helped the oil tracking & gas exploration/production ETF $XOP rise 4%. 

As oil tee’d off, the rest of the market was in decline over pessimism around interest rates, economic growth, and market health. Call that Bullish Dippers! The tech-heavy NASDAQ had the largest drop today, with $QQQ falling over 2% intraday. Leading up to today’s sell-off, prominent investors like Michael Burry (who predicted the 2008 housing crisis) warned about a market collection and stagnation

OIL BOUNCES BACK FROM 2020 CRASH, MEANWHILE $QQQ FALLS

Cathie Wood Has a New ETF?! | Money Drama

Mortgage company Rocket Companies exploded over 73% today. Much like GameStop and AMC, $RKT was a heavily shorted stock. But when push came to shove, the bulls pushed the shorts in front of a train, starting a giant short squeeze. This momentum comes on the heels of the company declaring a special dividend after a blowout quarter. Each shareholder of $RKT on March 9 will receive $1.11 per share for the dividend. 

Speaking of rockets, space launch company Rocket Lab is going public through the Vector Acquisition SPAC in a $4 billion deal. The company has already launched nearly 100 satellites into orbit around Earth and has commitments to do missions to the Moon, Venus, and Mars. The company will build a new rocket with a reusable first stage from the proceeds generated from the SPAC. They are also looking to make a move into bigger government contracts & commercial satellite launches launched by SpaceX and ULA. The company $VACQ popped 26% on the news of the merger. 

Online marketing & couponing site Groupon flamed all the bears and doubters on their Q4 earnings call. The company reported nearly twice as much in profit as was expected by analysts, sending the stock rising 32% since the close on Friday. Given the robust earnings beat, some analysts were made to reevaluate their positions on the stock. UBS, J.P. Morgan, and Credit Suisse all raised their price targets for $GRPN.

SPACS TO THE MOON - LITERALLY

Early this morning, Bitcoin hit an all-time high of $50,000. In the last month, Bitcoin has run up over 39% -— energized by Elon Musk and Tesla’s endorsement, a swath of new investors, and renewed interest around crypto.

Some Bitcoin mining companies made repeat appearances on today’s Rippers. These included Marathon Patent Group and Riot Blockchain, which both rose over 13% today. $MARA and $RIOT have more than doubled this year as they announced plans to expand their Bitcoin mining operations.

One of the biggest movers was the small-cap crypto mining company SOS Limited, which recently announced it would add over 5,000 miners to their infrastructure. $SOS was one of the most-shorted stocks before it suddenly broke out over 59% in trading today.

Joining these sophisticated Bitcoin mining operations was one of the few publicly traded companies that builds the miners. Canaan, which builds Bitcoin ASIC miners, broke out over 50.6% today.
